Useless Things Pt. 1

This is a short list of things and people I consider useless. I will absolutely keep adding to this, because as a cantankerous being, it is my duty to complain about very small things. 1. Your college advisor, probably. How many times have you uttered the words "Imma just do this my damn self" while dealing with them? Some of them are helpful, and by some, I mean maybe 3. You're a political science major but your advisor put you in advanced inorganic quantum maritime chemistry as an elective because wickedness is in their job description. 2. Omarosa's old White House position. If you can tell me what she used to do, kudos to you. Apparently, she was kicked off the White House premises in December and I'll just let Angela Rye sum up my feelings about her in this video from 2:08 to 2:45: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC72hGwUdXw 3. Black Mirror Season 4 Episode 5, the one with the robotic dog. SPOILER ALERT. Look, maybe I missed the point. It happens, especi

I'm Following the Lead of the Setting Sun

The last time I was able to go visit my home, St. Croix, USVI, was during the summer of 2014. It was right after my freshman year and I decided to go home to take psychology at our university there since it was inexpensive and I wanted to get it out of the way. Since then, I haven’t returned. I had never felt the need to go back home. So long as I could speak to my family on the phone, I was fine. That feeling has changed, though. Somewhat. Since graduating, I've lost some of the stability I had while in school. I also am trying to figure out what the hell I plan on doing with my life. Grounding is what I need. A reminder of why I’m going where I’m going, wherever that is. I need to go home. Aron Wright’s song “Home” made it into my “BIG CHUNE” playlist on Spotify (y’all really should follow that playlist...it’s hella diverse and the music is hella good) because of its scarily relatable lyrics. “I need the calm, forgiving peace that only comes from my family.” I sp

Man Still Can't Remember Where He Knows Actor From

The Golden Globes aired live recently, drawing all the biggest names in Hollywood under one roof. Millions watched at home as TV and film stars were celebrated for their artistry. Gerrie Holden was wiping his tears after watching Oprah deliver her moving inaugural address  award acceptance speech, when he noticed the camera pan over the audience to get the crowd's reaction. Holden spotted a familiar face in the audience, but much to his dismay, he could not remember what movie he saw her in. "Oh gosh. Where the hell do I know her from?" he asked himself as he continuously snapped his fingers in a pensive manner. Gerrie did try to search her description on Google, but he said that "white brunette actress" returned too many results to be helpful.

Camera Shy Snow Melts Under the Pressure

After winter storm Grayson carried frigid temperatures all the way up the Eastern Sea Board this week, millions woke up to see several inches of snow piled up on the ground. Naturally, millennials took to Instagram, Snapchat and one (and only one) even took to MySpace. News crews flocked their surrounding neighborhoods to air people, young and old, playing in the glistening ice dust. Several minutes after, puddles began to appear where the snow was. "I may not be as popular during this time of the year, but at least I don't run after a little bit of heat," exclaimed the now disappointingly present water.

Sympathy is Hard Sometimes

Some of y'all are mean. Let's get that out of the way right now. This isn't for y'all. Sympathy is easy when you don't intend on having any, smh. Ya soul need some bleach...just...dark. But for the rest of us with hearts, sympathy can be hard; not to feel, but to express sincerely. Most people have experienced some level of hardship in their lives. We go through things and come out of them changed in some way. Well, these hardships partially make us who we are and more often than not, we find that not everyone can relate to all of these experiences, which is fine. The problem comes when we try to converse with others about what we go through. This post is for the others. My go-to sympathy phrase is "I feel you." Can't pay your rent? I feel you. Your dog just died? I feel you. Loans piling up? BAY. BEE. TRUST ME. I actually feel you. The issue here is that I don't actually feel you on 66% of your trials and tribulations. So what do you say to th

New Year Resolutions Around the World Brace for Impact in Preparation to be Thrown out the Window

Fireworks and gunshots could be heard around the world earlier this week as the entire world rang in the New Year. Exactly nine months from yesterday, we can expect to see a spike in births worldwide. Still, babies aren't the only things born from the renewal of the social construct. New Year resolutions across the country are born already preparing for their death. "He still has the damn bacon in his fridge, so it's really only a matter of time. All I can do is pray," said one new resolution.
